SEEDLESS
Luke 1: 35 …The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Here we have the divine appointment of the Son of God. It seems a simple verse and phrasing, but it contains the stuff of miracle and majesty. Within its depths are the keys to our own beginning and the answer to sin. Here is defense of life’s sanctity in the womb and declaration of Jesus’ holy purity. Unformed and undefined at the very beginning, at that conceiving moment our Lord is simply referred to as that holy thing.
Society today regards the developing fetus simply as a thing to be either preserved or destroyed at the whim of the mother. Even God regards the fetus as a thing. Yet, it is a thing with purpose, design, soul, and life. The scripture’s account of that holy thing is that which shall be. Certainly it shall be born of Mary, but we must not miss the importance of God’s agreement and pronouncement of a life begun at conception. First that holy thing shall be and secondly, also, shall be born of thee [Mary]. Many disregard the truth of the Word of God. To top off the declaration of the sanctity of life of an unborn child we have the double whammy; the two “shall be” promises. First the child shall be born and then shall be called. The normal development of a child’s life is that it is conceived, born, and called. Society knows it all and has the answers? Not according to God’s Word. But then, society isn’t convinced God exists, either.
The account of the birth of Jesus should be enough to defend against any Christian agreeing or participating in abortion. In yesterday’s world it would have been a given that Christians would not support abortion, but today, even Christians are swayed by society, availability, and acceptance. Who would have considered any Christian entertaining the thought of abortion? Yet, it is easy, confidential, and as long as it is secret, shame free. Suppose Joseph had disregarded God’s Word and put away Mary? She could have been stoned, or she might have sought chemical abortion. Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? Why then does a daughter, neighbor, or friend find encouragement from Christians?
God took the life of David and Bathsheba’s child after it was born. I don’t believe that even God, with the power to reach within a womb and perform a painless surgery of quiet death, would perform abortion. God has said He has the power, but never used it. The only thing that hinders a child from being born is sin, either the sin of Adam to our corrupted bodies or the direct sin of murder. Abortion is not of God, it is man’s practice and a most insidious sin.
Any supermarket today has seedless grapes, watermelons, oranges and much other variety of seedless fruit. Why is man intent on getting rid of the seed? Today women can go to the doctor, get a prescription. and become seedless too. They can visit a doctor after the seed has been planted and rip that undesirable and offensive tender shoot right out of the body for only a few dollars. We have become a seedless society.
How about the seed of the gospel? It too is being removed from society and our lives. We Christians are the bride of Christ. We carry the seed of everlasting life to a lost and dying world. Or don’t we? Satan has taken a perverted gospel to the world and has aborted many would be Christian’s with poisoned and distorted religion. Other evildoers wait in the wings of God’s maternity room to gather the infant Christian into perverted doctrines and shear the sheep for monetary gain. Where do we fit in all of this?
Many would question the fruit of their labor. Have they any seed to begin?
Psalm 126: 5, 6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Have we lost the shed seeds of tears and compassion that fall from our heart and eyes? Is there any more bearing of the gospel seed? Or, has the bearing of the gospel gone the way of the bearing of children? The importance and joy of bearing children is being removed from our world. So, too is the importance and joy of the Christian soul winner to spread the gospel!
Do you weep now, bearing precious seed?
When will you weep?
